has extensive experience in forebody vortex control. Through NASA Ames,
RHRC has conducted several tests to determine the effectiveness of
forebody vortex control using several methods to provide increased yaw
control at high angles of attack in a rotating flow field. Using a 6%
scale F/A-18 model, RHRC tested different configurations of control
devices, including jets, slots, single and dual rotating nose-tip
strakes, and a vertical nose strake. All devices were effective at
producing controlled yawing moments in both directions.
